Old Fashioned

Tuesday, September 27, 2022
Until recently I’ve always been a Manhattan person. I tend to believe I shied away from Old Fashions because it was one of my first bourbon cocktails and bourbon and whiskey were just not a fit for me. Though the artistry of placing a sugar cube with bitters creates a base for a great cocktail. The recipe for an Old Fashioned is simple in ingredients but a show in technique.

Ingredients

1 sugar cube
3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 tsp. water
2 oz. bourbon
orange twist

Instructions

Add the sugar cube and bitters to a rocks glass, then add the water, and stir until the sugar is nearly dissolved.
Fill the glass with large ice cubes, add the bourbon, and gently stir to combine.
Express the oil of an orange twist over the glass, then drop into the glass to garnish.
