Hot Chocolate
Tuesday, June 30, 2020
I have so many memories of drinking a mug of hot water mix with a packet of Swiss Miss hot chocolate. If times were good it had the added bonus of tiny marshmellows. It was later in life that I enjoy rich hot chocolate. Rich warm milk, half and half mixed with chocolate is a simple pleasure that will always bring memories for you and your family. During the cold wintery days, the kids love having a fire in the fireplace, a cup of hot chocolate and watching Elf for the 200th time for the season. I've made this recipe for years and have turned into a hot cocoa bar. Everyone loves adding toppings to their hot coca masterpieces, with everyone thinking theirs is greater than the last. This holiday season, make a batch and then make your own bar. I typically have crushed candy canes, chocolate syrup, carmel syrup and if I've had the time I'll pull out of jar of homemade Dulce de leche.
Ingredients
3 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
1½ cups whole milk
1½ cups half & half
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
3 Tbsp. granulated sugar
Instructions
Bring 3/4 cup of water to a simmer, in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
Whisk in cocoa powder and whisk until there are no lumps.
Add the milk and half & half and bring back to simmer.
Whisk in the sugar and chocolate and stir until the chocolate has melted and the sugar has disolved. Around 5 minutes or so.
Serve in hot chocolate in mugs, top with whipped cream or your favorite topping. Watch Elf.
